Common questions

Frequently asked

What should I bring to a first appointment?

A piece of photo ID, your most recent notice of assessment, and last year's tax return if you have it. For business owners, bring your most recent financial statements or bookkeeping records. If you're missing something, come anyway — we can retrieve much of your CRA history once you authorize us as your representative.

How do your fees work?

Fees depend on the complexity and scope of the work, and we discuss them with you before any work begins — no surprises on the invoice. A simple return costs less than a corporate year-end; a first conversation about what your situation needs costs nothing.

Can you take over from my previous accountant?

Yes — this is routine. With your authorization, we contact your previous accountant as part of the standard professional handover and request the records we need. You don't have to have an awkward conversation; that's our job.

I haven't filed in several years. Can you help?

Yes, and you're far from alone. We handle multi-year catch-up filings regularly, and in some situations the CRA's Voluntary Disclosures Program can reduce penalties for coming forward. The situation almost never gets better by waiting — the first step is a confidential conversation.

I received a letter from the CRA. What should I do?

Don't ignore it — CRA letters have deadlines, and missing them narrows your options. Send us a copy and we'll tell you what it means and what, if anything, needs to happen. We respond to reviews and correspondence on our clients' behalf as their authorized representative.

Do I need to come into the office?

You're welcome at the office on Victoria Drive, but it isn't required — we work with clients by phone and email, and documents can be dropped off or sent electronically. Whatever is easiest for you.

When should I book during tax season?

Earlier than you think. The weeks right before April 30 are the busiest of the year, so getting your documents to us in March means more time for questions and planning rather than just filing. We extend our hours during tax season to keep up.
